Psychology – Dr. Rex Burnette

Contracted to provide psychological services at HCS one day a week, the psychologist performs psychoeducational testing for the Special Education Department, participates in team/parent meetings regarding students’ eligibilities for SPED services, assists with the Child Study process, provides psychological counseling for students if mandated by an I.E.P., consults with teacher and staff about students’ behaviors and emotional adjustments, and observes students in classrooms settings.

Special Education – Holderness Central School offers individualized programs and services to students with special needs. Individualized Education Plans are prepared with the involvement of parents/guardians who are regarded as full partners in the educational process. Emphasis is placed on maximizing academic progress in basic skill areas and in developing compensatory skills.

Speech-language services at the Holderness Central School include assessing, diagnosing, treating and helping prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, and other educationally related disorders. HCS has a certified speech-language pathologist. Services are provided as a related service to students who have Individual Education Plans and require speech and language support. Students who demonstrate developmental articulation errors may also receive short term services through the school’s Response to Intervention Program.

The Support Staff plays an integral part of each day here at Holderness Central School. Aside from providing academic support in classrooms, they also serve many other important duties. Some of these duties include, but are not limited to, playground and cafeteria supervision, office support and clerical duties, dismissal supervision, and numerous other special education duties. The Support Staff and Teachers here at Holderness Central School, work side by side to help each child reach his or her full potential.
