Grades 6, 7 & 8 – Language Arts & Social StudiesMs. Kristen Robidoux
Our two core subjects of English-Language Arts and Social Studies complement each other and can easily be joined, depending upon the specific subject that is to be studied. Both the English and Social Studies classes will involve extensive writing. In these classes, a written project that is carefully and thoughtfully done over a period of time will have more grading weight value than a test. The reasoning here is that a student may have a bad day on the day of the test, and the result may be a poor test score that is not reflective of the true ability or knowledge of the student. On the other hand, a written project gives the student multiple opportunities to earn a higher grade and probably gives the student more time to digest information and thus learn more.
Writing in these classes is based upon the premise that anyone can produce good quality written work, but it will take time and effort to do so. Feedback and revision is the key to success in writing. There is no such thing as a final draft--there is only a last draft. We can always improve if we use the techniques we study in class. Success is guaranteed with hard work.
Homework for English and Social Studies will be posted on this website. Students still need to use their planner to record homework assignments on their own.
