Welcome to 1st GradeMrs. Deidre Rideout
Welcome to first grade at Thornton Central School!
For those of you I haven’t had the opportunity of meeting yet, my name is Mrs. Rideout. I am a Plymouth State University graduate and have my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education K-8. I first came to Thornton Central School four years ago as a student teacher in a second grade classroom. I fell in love with teaching and with TCS, and came back as a teacher’s assistant the following year for grades 3, 4, and 6. Since then, I have taught both third and first grade.
Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, playing with my dogs, and reading. This year in first grade, we will be working on becoming confident readers and writers. We will learn about letters and numbers, and will learn new words to incorporate in our everyday writing and conversation. In Reading, we will be using the Reading Street Program and will read a new story as a class each week. We will be learning lots of new words this year! We will also be using the Wilson Fundations Phonics program.
In Math, we will be using the Math in Focus program, and will work on building number sense with a variety of fun, hands-on activities. We will learn addition and subtraction, how to tell time, and place value. We will also continue working on counting strategies.
I look forward to working with you all this year! :)
